Shirlee A (Boles) Bostrom
January 18, 1954 ~ February 26, 2024 (age 70)

Shirlee Arlene Bostrom, 70, of Newton died on Monday, February 26, 2024, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials in Shirlee’s name (checks made payable to Daniel Bostrom) may be left at the funeral home.

Shirlee, the daughter of Keith and Vera (Dammeier) Boles, was born on January 18, 1954, in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1972. After high school, Shirlee moved to California to attend Life Bible College. While there she met Daniel Bostrom, they were later married on July 18, 1974 in Van Nuys, California at the Church on the Way. Daniel and Shirlee lived in southern California together for over 40 years. She attended junior college in Glendale and they attended church at the Church on the Way and Christian Assembly. Shirlee had a lifelong love of animals and enjoyed working as a dog groomer in the early 2000’s. In 2008, Daniel and Shirlee moved back to Newton and returned to Shirlee’s childhood church, The Foursquare Church.

In addition to her support of animal rights and shelters, Shirlee also loved music and playing the guitar. She was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Minnesota Vikings.

Shirlee is survived by her husband, Daniel Bostrom of Newton; children, Heather Bostrom of Alameda, California, Daniel “Danny” (Candy) Bostrom of Sunland-Tujunga, California, and James Bostrom of Newton; her sister, Kay (Les) Ray of Ohio; aunts and uncle, Merita Dammier, Arlene Boyer, and Murry (Diane) Dammeier, all of Newton; and her nephews, nieces, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; four aunts, Hilma McKinney, Marceda Romick, Roma Mosher, and Luella Bragg; and an uncle, Derald Dammeier.
