August 1, 1926 ~ February 22, 2024 (age 97)

Eleanor Ruth (Halligan) Cox, 97, entered into heaven on Thursday, February 22, 2024, at her home in Kellogg, Iowa, with her family around her. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, at the Rock Creek Cemetery near Kellogg. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Eleanor’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory or at the graveside.

Eleanor, the daughter of John E. and Eleanor Ruth (Alexander) Halligan, was born on August 1, 1926, in the Peoria Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. She graduated mid-term from Springfield High School in 1945. Eleanor attended classes at Northwestern University and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University with a teaching degree in 1950. She was married to Everett Cox on June 20, 1953, at the First Congregational Church in downtown Evanston, Illinois. She was a longtime farmer’s wife and homemaker. Eleanor enjoyed farm sales, dancing, cooking, and baking. She also liked handy crafts, babysitting, her pets, swimming, and card games. She was a member of the ladies club Neighborly Neighbors, Washington PTA, Women of the Moose, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Kellogg Museum, and Friends of Rock Creek Lake.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Everett in 2006; three sisters, Dorothy (Charlie) Crisp of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Virginia (Garth) Goben of Buffalo Junction, Virginia, and Maggie (Everett) Eckenbeck of Highland Park, Texas; and her three nephews and two nieces.

Those left to honor Eleanor’s memory are her daughter, Edith “Edie” (Randy) Hoover of Newton; son, Wayne Cox of Kellogg; her granddaughter, Emma (Gene) Morris of Newton; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Morris of Newton; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Lucky Lady Cox.
