Rodney Eugene Mears
1944-2023Heaven gained one hell of an angel on April 27, 2023. Rodney Eugene Mears, 79, passed away at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, Hutchinson. He was born February 18, 1944, in Minot, ND, the son of Harry and Katherine (Reynolds) Mears.
In 1961, Rodney joined the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1964. On January 20, 1995, Rodney married Cynthia Cullison in Hutchinson. Rodney was owner and operator for Chicken Etc. in Hutchinson. In his free time, Rodney enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking. He was a member of the Shriners in the Des Moines, Iowa and Kansas City, KS area.
Rodney is survived by his wife, Cynthia; eight children, Vulla (Dennis) Dusek, Barbara (Duane) Hamilton, Joe (Brianna) Bodine, Johnnie (Leslie) Bodine, Zachariah (Ashlyn) Cullison-Mears, Shelby (Allison) Cullison-Mears, Sandy (Gary) Bishop and Shawn Mears; 21 grandchildren, Dennyelle (Logan) Dusek-Gray, Dennin (Chano) Dusek-Orona, Deeter (Darrian) Dusek, Victoria (J.D.) Pruitt, Travis (Emily) Hamilton, Brittany (Keaton) Hamilton, Brandy (Chance) Bodine, Evan Bodine, Ashlyn Bodine, Jaydon Mosier, Kynsington Mosier, Hartleigh Mosier, Maizlyn Bodine, Treston (Brooklyn) Bodine, Noah Ratzlaff, Justina Friesen, Samuel Friesen, Destiny Neill, Kyrstan Gumble, Angela Frank, Stephen Bishop; 18-great grandchildren; niece, Brandi (Chris) Brase; brothers in law, John A. Cullison and Bennie S. Cullison; sisters in law, Donna Lightsy, Nina Kocher, Lisa Goff, Pattie (Buddy) Norris and Teresa Foltz; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lynn Landwehr and Betty Mears; and a daughter, Sabrina Martin.
A funeral service will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023 at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel, 300 E. 30th Ave. Hutchinson, with Rev. Charles Crumble Sr. officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at Hutchinson Funeral Chapel. The family has asked that any memorial contributions be made to the funeral chapel to help defray funeral expenses.
