April 7, 1934 - January 2, 2024

Betty Jean Schmidt Ellis, 89, of Baxter, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter on Friday, January 12th from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. A private family burial will be held in Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Betty was born on April 7, 1934, in Sully, Iowa to Claud and Thelma (Fry) Adams. She attended school and graduated from Mingo. Following school, she went to nursing school where she earned her registered nursing license. Betty worked at Skiff Hospital and Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She married Eugene Schmidt on February 26, 1951, and to this union 4 children were born.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton and the ODO Club. Betty loved spending time with her family, selling Avon, knitting, playing solitaire and her game boy, and visiting various casinos.

Those left to cherish her loving memory are her children Harold (Deb) Schmidt, Daniel Schmidt, Tom Schmidt, and Alicia (Danny) Meyer; grandchildren Travis (Alicia) Schmidt, Troy (Angela) Schmidt, Brad (Kristi) Schmidt, Stephanie (Zack) Kern, Tiffany (Dan) Bell, Thaddius (Ashly) Schmidt, Derrick (Keriann) Hansen, Dylan (Carissa) Hansen, Nicolas (Ashley) Meyer, and Brooke (Zach) Roskilly; great-grandchildren Ethan, Austin, McKenna, Maya, Ava, Lily, Noah, Madalynn, William, Mason, Camden, Aliyah, Reed, Ollie, Olivia, Esme, Lena, Oaklie, Wade, and Jo Anna; many distant relatives and close friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Eugene and Carl, grandson Andy, and great-grandson Dominick.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Kavanagh Hospice House in Betty’s memory.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care has been entrusted with the care of Betty and her family.
