Rose Nettie (Helm) DeWit was born on January 22, 1926, in Parkston, South Dakota to Isaac and Rose (Palmer) Helm. At a young age, Nettie moved to Iowa and resided in Colfax and later Prairie City. She attended the Prairie City School and graduated in 1944. Nettie married Robert L. DeWit on February 10, 1946. Together, they began a career in the restaurant business and owned the Please-U-Cafe until Robert retired in 1982. Nettie retired a few years earlier. She enjoyed working part time in Des Moines in a ladies apparel store and also in a jewelry store, fulfilling her passion and love for fashion and jewelry. Nettie also enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips with friends. Colorado was a favorite family vacation spot.

Robert and Nettie had two daughters, Pamela and Robinette. As a mother, she enjoyed being an avid volunteer for her girls’ activities and organizations. It was not uncommon for her to say, “yes” when asked to provide chauffeur services to many kids' activities. It was no surprise that she did something thoughtful for every holiday, continuing that tradition with her grandchildren. The family feels so blessed to have had the privilege of celebrating so many of the 97 birthdays with her, until her passing.

Those left to honor her memory include her daughters, Pamela (James) Jennings and Robinette (Frank) Evinger; grandchildren, Staci (Kevin) Pratt, Jamie (Jeff) Fort, Brad (Megan) Evinger, and Cody (Mollie) Evinger; great grandchildren, Emmalyn Pratt, Nathan Pratt, Ryan Fort, Jaxon Evinger and Maddox Evinger. Nettie was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Lou and her husband, Robert.
