The son of Lawrence and Dorothy (Keuning) Steenhoek, Larry was born on September 4, 1942 in Pella. On October 12, 1962 he was united in marriage to Frances Jean McDonald at the Christian Church in Prairie City. They lived in PC for 50 years, moved to Pella for 11 years, then Joplin, Mo for 5 years before moving to Monroe in 2007. Larry graduated from PCHS in 1960 and studied business/accounting at AIB in DSM.

Larry worked at Dowden Mfg (1 yr), Look Magazine (2 years) and then started a long career in the welding and gas supply industry as accountant, purchasing agent and Branch Manager at R&R welding (sold to Genex & Praxair). He ended his career in Joplin, MO with LinWeld.

Larry was a member of the PC Boosters, Lions Club, Jaycees and played in many bowling leagues up until 2006. He loved playing, watching and talking about sports - especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs.

Larry was a talented handyman. Their first home was built by Roberts Bros but Larry and Fran did the cabinets and finishing work. Larry built his 2 car garage, doubled the size of the house by finishing the basement and many projects for his children and grandchildren’s homes. He also was a foreman on the construction of the West Market Park Playground in Pella.

He was a happy person, loved his family and friends, was a stranger to none. If there was a championship for “Dutch Bingo”, Larry would have been the champion.

Those left to honor his memory include his children, Barbara Lancaster, Kathryn (Phil) Clark, James (Kelly Siebert), and Bradley (Brian Herrera); four grandchildren, Levi James (Natalie) Clark, Logan (Shawna Lewis) Dean Clark, Jamison Marie Steenhoek and Denali Rose (Cody Jacobson) Lancaster; two great grandchildren, Madison and Carson Clark; two brothers, Lloyd (Donna) Steenhoek and Gene (Karen) Steenhoek and several nieces and nephews. Preceding Larry in death were his parents, wife, Frances in 2010 and a niece, Karma.
