November 7, 1932 - October 25, 2023

Marjorie B. Thompson, age 90 formerly of Prairie City, passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at Morningstar Assisted Living in West Des Moines. Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 11:00 am at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. The family will greet friends following the service in the fellowship hall with a luncheon. Private family burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren, St. Croix Hospice or Bidwell Riverside Center. The daughter of Louis and Gertrude (Dykstra) Birkenholz, Marjorie was born on November 7, 1932 at home in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1951. On August 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” Thompson, also from Prairie City. They made their home in Prairie City until the late 1970’s when Dick was transferred to Cleveland, TN. Marjorie loved living in Tennessee. After a few years, Dick was transferred again and they made their home in Newton, IA She moved to Pleasant Hill after Dick passed away in 2009 and in 2019 moved to West Des Moines where she lived until her passing.

Marjorie enjoyed playing Bridge; cards with her family; being a member of PEO; making beautiful feather trees and cross stitch samplers. She was also proud of serving as the church organist at the Church of the Brethren. She was devoted to her family and her grandchildren and great grandchildren were such a treasure to her. She worked several clerical jobs throughout her career but her greatest job was to be a wife, mother, and grandmother.

Marjorie is survived by her two children, Dennis (Cecille) Thompson and Susan (Robert) Curry; three grandchildren, Jennifer (Patrick) Meyer, Megan (Rob) Irwin, and Nathan (Jennifer) Curry; her great grandchildren, Caleb, Bailey, Josie, William, Logan, and Colter and a sister, Joyce Birkenholz. Preceding Marjorie in death were her parents, husband, a brother, Dale and a great grandson, Gabriel.

Marjorie’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of St. Croix Hospice and Morningstar Senior Living for their compassionate care during their loved one’s journey.
