Viola "Eileen" Gauch, 87, of Baxter, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Park Centre Nursing home in Newton. Her visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023, from 4:00 - 6:30 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home (107 North Main St.) in Baxter. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial will be held in Restland Cemetery.
She was born on August 13, 1936, in St. Anthony, Iowa to Hally and Flora (Hawks) Whitney. Educated at State Center High School, Eileen possessed a strong foundation that allowed her to succeed in both her personal and professional endeavors. However, it was her warm personality and kind disposition that truly endeared her to everyone she met. Eileen never shied away from striking up conversations with strangers and would brighten anyone's day with her friendly demeanor. She met the love of her life, Leo “Max” Gauch on a dance floor in Marshalltown and the couple married October 20, 1957. The couple moved to Baxter where they began their family together.
Eileen led a fulfilling life filled with various careers that showcased her dedication and passion for helping others. Eileen worked at the Baxter Sale Barn and also served as a cook at the Baxter Restaurant. Later she began her professional journey as a Nurse's Aide at the Baxter Nursing Home, where she touched the lives of many with her caring spirit. Her commitment and hard work were evident in every role she took on.
In remembrance of her late husband Max, Eileen found solace in the little moments of life. Whenever she discovered a dime, she saw it as a symbol of Max greeting her from Heaven above. It was these heartwarming gestures that showed Eileen's unwavering faith and connection to those she loved. Outside of work, Eileen cherished spending time with her family, who meant the world to her. She found immense joy in crocheting blankets for babies and weddings while showcasing her sewing skills. Her playful nature was evident through the best ornery grin that would light up any room she entered. Taking her grandkids to Evs for ice cream or enjoying pizza dinners at Bailey's or Giovanis were moments she treasured deeply.
Eileen also had a passion for baking and was known for her ability to whip up delicious treats. She possessed a unique talent for finding the best in everybody she encountered, spreading positivity and love wherever she went. The aroma of McDonald's french fries was something she couldn't resist.
Eileen's proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly her family and grandchildren. She poured her heart and soul into being the best mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother she could be. Her unconditional love fueled their lives with warmth and support.
Eileen leaves behind an immense legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She is reunited in heaven with her parents, husband Max, sisters Ann Poshek, Ina Callahan, and Margaret Sharp. Those left to cherish Eileen's memory are her sons Jim (Deb) Gauch, Doug (Tammy) Gauch, Scott (Joann Maxwell) Gauch, all of Baxter, IA; cherished grandchildren Donna (Anthony) Binning, Lindsey (Collin) Petruczenko, Spencer Gauch, Missy (J.R.) Fischer, Stephanie Gauch, and Heather Gauch; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister Cathy Nolan; brothers-in-law Chuck (Linda) Gauch and Glenn Sharp; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
In Eileen Gauch's life, love flowed freely. Her kind-hearted nature touched countless lives and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those fortunate enough to know her. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith in the goodness of others and the joy she spread throughout her community. Eileen's infectious laughter and genuine care for others will forever remain a cherished memory. Eileen was adored by her family and friends and will always hold a special place in their hearts.
