Chas. (Chick) Hill, 50, Dies Here Friday
Services for Charles (Chick) Hill, jr., 50, of Chariton, who died of a heart attack Friday at Chariton, were Monday at the Overton Funeral home in Indianola. Burial was at Graham cemetery near Mingo.
He was superintendent of construction for the Gethmann Construction company of Gladbrook, and foreman on the new National Bank and Trust company contract here.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Vern Bonney of Maxwell and Mrs. Carl Weeks of New Virginia and five brothers, Clark of South Bend, Ind., Raymond of Lake Preston, S.D., John of Denver, Colo., George of Winterset and Max of Martensdale.

He was known by the nickname Chick throughout his life. He was born to Maeola Conner and Charles Martin Hill Sr. in 1915.
In 1920, the family lived in Jackson Township, Warren County, Iowa. In 1930, they had moved to Squaw Township, Warren County. In 1940, the family lived in White Oak Township, also Warren County.
By 1944, he had made his way to Tacoma, Washington, where he met and married Betty Jean Haverly. She was from Hughes County, South Dakota. Together, they had one child, a daughter. Apparently, they divorced and he returned to Iowa. She remarried a man named Wilson.
He died in June of 1966 at the age of 50. His funeral was in Indianola, Warren County, Iowa, home of his younger brother Max.
