James “Jim” William Golik, 78, of Newton died on Friday, October 6, 2023, at Unity Point Health- Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. A private family graveside will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Newton. Memorials to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Jim, the son of Anton and Vera (Dernovich) Golik, was born on April 18, 1945, in Centerville. He grew up in Centerville and graduated from Centerville High School in 1963. After graduation he worked with his dad as a bricklayer before starting his career at the Maytag Company on January 12, 1966. After commuting for a time, he moved to Newton. On July 7, 1984, Jim was united in marriage with Vicki Craig at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. While at Maytag he worked as a small press operator, die setter, and on the automatic cabinet line, retiring after more than 30 years of service on June 29, 1996. During retirement, Jim worked for Newman Brothers, including projects at the Iowa Speedway and at Grinnell College. Jim also enjoyed collecting and selling scrap metal.

Jim was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the UAW Local 997. For many years, he loved to help his son, Brett, with his sprint car at the Knoxville Raceway and other area tracks. Jim also was a devoted and loyal Norte Dame Fighting Irish fan.

Jim is survived by his wife, Vicki Golik of Newton; step-son, Daniel Banghart of Newton; grandchildren, Raeanna Banghart and Shelby Banghart; great-grandchildren, Ava Garcia and Daniel James Garcia; his brothers, Richard (Nancy) Golik of Indianola and Don (Betty) Golik of Springfield, Missouri; sister-in-law, Sally (Dan) Vasquez of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Brett Golik; and two brothers, Anton Golik, Jr. and Robert Golik.
