David Michael Kissel
April 19, 1935 - July 9, 2023

David Michael Kissel, age 88, of Montezuma, Iowa (formerly Runnells), passed away on July 9, 2023. Online condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The son of Andrew Kissel and Lucille Kelly, David was born on April 19, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. David graduated from high school and worked throughout his career as a land surveyor. He was married to Sandra (Reints) Kissel in Des Moines in 1975. He resided in Runnells for 43 years until his move to Montezuma.

David's life was an eclectic collection of holding fast and letting go.

He held fast to experiences that fostered a keen awareness that our mortality is an inescapable truth.

He found serenity imbedded in adrenaline through countless miles on a motorcycle.

He sought answers to the universe through mountains of literature, looking both inward and toward the cosmos for meaning.

He loved often and spontaneously, carried by fleeting desires to connect not only with the world around him, but also to other people.

As his time on Earth came to an end, The material things that brought him joy slowly diminished. But what remained was his steadfast humor, and his unyielding capacity to cultivate joy in what remained.

Those left to honor David’s memory include his children; Johnny Kissel, Glen Kissel, Laura Eastgate, Stephanie Kissel, Heather Kissel, and April Keller.

Preceding David in death was his wife; Sandra Kissel (2016), his parents; Andrew Kissel and Lucille Kelly, siblings; Johnny Kissel and Andrew Kissel, and children; Annette Kissel, Samantha Kissel, and Michael Kissel.
