Obituary
Doris May Booth, age 91, of Prairie City, Iowa, passed away on June 16, 2023, in Des Moines, Iowa. A visitation will be held for Doris at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City on Friday, July 7, 2023, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM. A short memorial service will follow at 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made out to the Prairie City Rescue Association. Online condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com.

The daughter of Clarence and Dorothy (Mead) Booth, Doris was born on November 28, 1931, in Prairie City, Iowa. Doris grew up in Prairie City and graduated in the class of 1950. Following high school, she attended AIB and graduated in 1952. Doris took a job at Hunter Brothers following graduation and stuck around for her entire career. She worked as a bookkeeper and was a great asset to the company. Doris was also a longtime member of the First Methodist Church of Des Moines.

In her free time, Doris enjoyed many things. She was a traveler, an animal lover, a master in genealogy, listener of the Statler Brothers, a woodworker, a sports fanatic, and most of all, a family woman. Doris frequently traveled in her younger years, oftentimes she was trying to tie up loose ends to a genealogy record. At one point, she followed the Statler Brothers around to many of their shows. She loved her dogs and was always considered an animal person. If you were at her house, you were likely to be watching sports on the TV. Doris enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and basketball in high school, and she helped the YMCA with refereeing for a time. It can be said that Doris was a collector of sorts. She saved all sorts of things from mail to stacks of family records. Above all things, she enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews, making many memories with them through the years.

Those left to honor Doris’ memory include her nieces; Pam (Carl) Van Der Kamp, Patty (Jim) Tiernan, and Becky (Ron Diaz) Booth, her great nieces, and nephews; Ryan (Ann) Van Der Kamp, Erik (Jody) Van Der Kamp, Bethany (Andy) Stanger, and Adam (Shelby Klinger) Tiernan.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; Clarence and Dorothy, as well as her brother; Lawrence (Goldie) Booth.
