Clyde Leon Wiley, 88, the son of Raymond Henry and Florence Evelyn (Smith) Wiley was born March 19, 1935, near Ewart, Iowa. He attended and graduated from Grinnell Senior High School, Class of 1953.

Clyde served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. After returning home from the service, he attended and graduated from William Penn College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

Clyde met the love of his life, Mary Kathleen Paulsen, while at William Penn. They were united in marriage on August 12, 1961, at the Oskaloosa Friends Church. They moved to Newton in 1966 where he taught Social Studies, coached tennis, football, and track. Clyde and Mary established and led the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for High School students for 17 years.

Clyde and Mary raised their family with a passion for serving Christ and a love for the Newton Cardinals. Clyde was always serving his family, church, and community with his leadership, and enthusiasm to care for those in need. He spent countless hours traveling to and attending his kids and grandkids sports games and activities to show his love and support.

Clyde left this earth surrounded by his family and entered his eternal home in Heaven on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters Norma (Harris) and Dorothy (Strong), his brother Warren, his son Michael, and his son-in-law Pastor Jeff Sanderson.

A visitation with the family will be held at the Pence-Reese Funeral home Thursday, August 31, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Burial will be in the Bondurant Iowa Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, at Federated Church of Bondurant at 11:00 am, with a luncheon following.

Those left to honor the memory of Clyde include his wife Mary of 62 years, his daughters: Diane (Corbin) Van Wyk, Kathy Sanderson, and Laura (Ryan) Meixner; his daughter-in-law Sandi Wiley: his eleven grandchildren; Sidney (Caleb), Christian (Shelby), Ryan, Taylor (Shauna), Joshua, Lydia, Hudson, Harrison, Jordan (Caroline), Westin, Graham (Kathryn) and his 6 great grandchildren; Sage, Ivy, Ranger, Shire, Prairie, and Olivia, his brother Jack Wiley, his sister Joyce Reiman, and his many extended family members and friends.
