Funeral services for Matthew Gene Bruhn, 13, of Newton, a resident of Newton since 1972, will be held at 10:30 Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Our Savior Lutheran Church.
The Rev. Jerry W. Doellinger, pastor of the church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Visitation with the family will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
Memorials to a fund in the youth’s name may be left at the funeral home.
He died Sunday evening, Feb. 19, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of injuries sustained in a gunshot accident.
Survivors are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Bruhn of Newton; a brother, Joel of Newton; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Hilda Bruhn of Emmetsburg; and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lenz of Emmetsburg.
The youth, a member of the Our Savior Lutheran Church, was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in Waterloo March 29, 1970.
He was an eighth grader at B. C. Berg Junior High School, a member of the school’s jazz band, eighth grade band and orchestra and the Cardinal Club.
He was born March 18, 1970 in Waterloo, the son of David and Mary Lenz Bruhn.
