Jimmy L. Richtsmeier
February 5, 1948 ~ June 15, 2023 (age 75)It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, Jimmy L. Richtsmeier on June 15, 2023. He was surrounded and comforted by his immediate family and passed peacefully at home.
Jimmy was born February 5, 1948, to William A. and Wilma L. Richtsmeier in Hampton, Iowa. He grew up around the Hampton/Oelwein area until he moved to Newton in 1967. Jimmy was a master of angling, thoroughly enjoying time spent out on the water regardless of whether the fish were biting. He enjoyed sunrises, sunsets, picnics, music, reading, learning, playing guitar, and any time spent with family.
He established and earned a fantastic reputation operating his own business for 30 years, Richtsmeier Roofing. He was a very talented carpenter and worked for the Carpenters Union for many years as well. Jimmy had a passion for woodworking and carpentry and thoroughly enjoyed what he did for a living, so much that he spent most of his time remodeling his own home in his spare moments. He proudly served his country as a Vietnam Veteran.
He was a master of everything he put his mind to, including computer hardware installation, building PCs, and learning about new technology, and spent a lot of time sharpening these skills.
Survivors include his loving wife of over 50 years, Carlotta Naisbitt Richtsmeier; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Renae (Patrick) Northcutt of Newton and Wendi (Jeremy) Brannen of Daytona Beach, FL; 3 grandsons, Rowen Mitchell (Baby D) of Oceanside, CA and Jimmy and Colton Northcutt of Newton; a brother and sister-in-law, Richard (Loretta) Richtsmeier of Newton; 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Nelson of Dakota City and Becky Richtsmeier of Marion; and many nieces and nephews.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, William Richtsmeier and Wilma (Richtsmeier) Crandell; stepfather, Marvin “Marv” Crandell; 2 brothers, William L. Richtsmeier and Jerry Richtsmeier; his father and mother-in-law, George W. “Bill” and Bonnie J. Naisbitt; and a brother-in-law, Charles “Chuck” Naisbitt.
As per his request, there will be no services and a private interment will be held at a later date. We would like to encourage friends and family to leave a message and share a memory on the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory website.
