April 10, 1937 ~ June 2, 2023 (age 86)

Carol Ann Russell, 86, formerly of Colfax and Newton died on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Edencrest at the Tuscany in Altoona. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the church. Memorials to EveryStep Hospice or the First Presbyterian Church may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Carol, the daughter of Glen and Cleo Dale (Alley) Mindham, was born on April 10, 1937 in Shenandoah. She grew up in Colfax and graduated from Colfax High School in 1955. On June 18, 1956, Carol was united in marriage with Donald Russell in Des Moines. They made their home on the farm in rural Colfax, where Carol was a farmer’s wife and homemaker. In the 1980’s after their kids were older, Carol worked for Hansen Directory and later for DMACC as a switchboard operator. Carol was a member of the First Presbyterian Church. After retirement, Carol and Don enjoyed spending their summers at their cabin in Minnesota. After Don’s passing in 2014, Carol moved to Newton. Carol enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Jeri (Mark) Harmison of Colfax, Susan (Tom) Luttenegger of Richfield, Minnesota, and Tracy (Craig) Van Wyk of Colfax; grandchildren, Brent Harmison, Krista Harmison, Nathan Luttenegger, Nicole Luttenegger, Ryan (Eva) Van Wyk, and Katie Van Wyk; her great-grandchildren, Riley and Emily; sister, Kathy Hall of Fargo, North Dakota; and many other loving family members. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald Russell; brother, Richard Mindham; and two sisters, Connie Allen and Glenda Brown.
