A Pioneer Gone
William Pitcock was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, Dec. 13, 1840. Died June 3, 1918 at the home of his son William at Greencastle, Iowa, aged 77 yrs., 5 mo., and 20 days.
His boyhood was spent in Ohio, where he was married Aug. 25, 1862 to Miss Matilda Tedrow of Roseville, Perry Co., Ohio, who died in June 1908. To this union was born eight children, Harley of Goddard, Adolphus, Mrs. Rose Hanson of Ira, Harry of Mingo, Mrs. Bessie Wilson of Baxter, Mrs. Rilla Ware of Colfax, William E. of Greencastle and Edward in Camp in San Antonio, Texas, all of whom are living except Adolphus who died in infancy.
August 26th 1862 Mr. Pitcock with four brothers enlisted in Company A 62nd Reg. Ohio Infantry, from which service they were all honorably discharged June 17th 1865, having served 2 yrs. and 11 months.
He moved with his family to Iowa Feb. 8th 1869 settling in Poweshiek Twp. Jasper Co. where he resided until his death.
Aside from the seven children left to mourn his death are: one brother John of Ohio, one sister Mrs. Jane Wiles of Naptha, Cal. Fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
