J. L. Nida, 83, of Newton died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, at Skiff Medical Center – Monarch Wing in Newton.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax with burial following at McKeever Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at the funeral home. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Jasper County or the Church of the Nazarene in Newton. The son of Clarence and Margie (Cooper) Nida, J. was born on May 15, 1928 in Trenton, Mo. On Feb. 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Helen S. Burch. J. worked for 42 years for Gerald and Chris Herbold. He enjoyed working with the animals and being outside. J. also enjoyed walking later in life and would be seen all over Newton.
Those left to honor his memory include his children, Kathy Osborn and her husband Joe of Excelsior Springs, Mo., Linda Brenden and her friend David of Newton, Leroy Nida and his wife Lisa of Kalona and Bobbi Etter and her husband Kip of Kellogg; a daughter-in-law, Christine Nida of Newton; 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife on Jan. 22, 2012; a son, Bradley; two granddaughters; a great-great granddaughter; a brother, Clarence; and a sister, Vera.
