Services Are Conducted For Mrs. Emma Mabie
Colfax – Final rites for Mrs. Emma Mabie were conducted Sunday, Dec. 27, at the Cutter-Hartnett funeral chapel with the Rev. Albert Vander Ploeg, minister of the Colfax Baptist church officiating.
Mrs. Mabie was born Nov. 9, 1859, and died Dec. 24, 1942, in the Skiff Memorial hospital at Newton.
She had been admitted to the Skiff hospital the previous day after a fall which resulted in a hip fracture.
Mrs. Mabie was the wife of Jonas Mabie who preceded her in death, as did one son, Glenn Durham.
Mrs. Mabie is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Charles Elliott of Colfax; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary Walker; two brothers, John and Logan Reddish of Indianola and several nieces and nephews.
Music for the services was furnished by Mrs. Earl Plummer and Mrs. George Rinker.
Pall bearers were C. E. Christensen, Ralph Cummings, Clyde Akins, E. S. Calhoun, Wayne Story and Ed Mickley. Floral attendants were Mrs. Charles Butler, Mrs. Maud Schroyer, and Mrs. Cora Shipley.
Burial was in the McKeever cemetery.
Those attending from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Lapham and Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Reddish and Jean of West Des Moines; and Mrs. Jess Huftey, Mrs. Ruth Willsey, Mrs. Sybil Woods and Lorain McGuire, all of Indianola.
