=====================================================
Norma Darlene Roorda, the youngest of six children born to Isaac J. and Ethel Curtis Roorda, was born on March 16, 1919, near Attica. The family continued to live there and the Knoxville area until her mother passed when Norma was 2 years old. The family then moved to Osceola where she began school. Later, the family moved to Norwoodville, north of Des Moines. When Norma was nine years old, her father was killed by a team of runaway horses. Norma and her 3 brothers lived for a short time with their older sister, Dorothy, before going to live with her father's brother in Lynnville. She attended Lynnville Junction School and then graduated the eighth grade, as valedictorian, from Lynnville Consolidated School in 1932. After schooling, Norma worked for many area farm families.

On September 27, 1939, she was united in marriage with Deverne Leo Renaud, a son of Walter L. and Sarah M. (Brand) Renaud, at the Community Church parsonage in Sully. To this union seven children were born: Marilyn Joan, Larry Dean, Carolyn Sue, Jerry Lee, Isaac Walton, Randall Dee and Marlys Kay. Deverne and Norma spent their married life farming near the communities of Sully, Lynnville and Grinnell. Deverne passed away on March 31, 1967 at the age of 48 years. Upon his passing, Norma worked as a cook at Lynnville-Sully Community Schools for many years. During her retirement years she kept her self busy with many kinds of handiwork; sewing, counted cross-stitch and ceramics. She also enjoyed cooking and canning. Norma made her profession of faith at the age of 18 years and was in happy fellowship with those gathered in the Lord's name at Sully as long as her health permitted. After many blessed years spent with her family, Norma passed away peacefully on September 2, 2005.

Those left to cherish her memory are her six children and their families. They are: (Marilyn J.) Arie Vande Voort, Jr. of Pella, Larry and Marcene Renaud of Ames, Carolyn and Thomas Durr of Colo, Jerry and Ellene Renaud of Grinnell, Isaac and Patricia Renaud of Show Low, AZ, Randall and JoLynn Renaud of Altoona, Marlys and Ricky Hagen of Anchorage, Alaska.

Of her original family, Norma is survived by one sister-in-law, Delores (Willis) Roorda of South Bend, IN. Of her husband Deverne's original family she leaves his two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Myron and Sophie Renaud of Sully, Wilford and Mildred Renaud of Peoria, and Elizabeth (Ivan) Renaud of Pella. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Deverne; daughter, Marilyn Vande Voort; her parents; and her siblings, Dorothy Glover, Donald Roorda, Glenn Roorda, Corwin and Willis Roorda.

Norma's life was a journey of perseverance, strength and ability to overcome trials during her life. Norma's faith in God during these years is a legacy, which will carry on with her family for generations to come.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or a Hospice of the donor's choice.
