Carris Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with services for David Lord, 70, of Perry. David died on Tuesday, July 26, at the Perry Lutheran Home. His funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 2 at 1:30 p.m. at the Carris Family Funeral Home in Perry, with burial in the Ashton Cemetery at rural Mingo, Iowa.
David Lord, 70, of Perry died July 26, 2005, at the Perry Lutheran Home.
David George Lord was born December 4, 1934 on a farm near Lorimer, Iowa. He was the son of Colin Wilford and Vera Robinett Lord. He attended the Kasson one-room school near his home through eighth grade and graduated from Winterset High School in 1953 and Iowa State College in 1957.
He was united in marriage to Maizie Holmes on September 8, 1957. David served twenty-one years in the Iowa National Guard.
He was the owner of Lord's Men's and Boys' Clothing Store in Perry for twenty-five years and of Four-Seasons Car Wash and Mini-Storage for twenty-six years. He served in the Iowa House of Representatives for six years from 1995 to 2000 and the Iowa Senate one-year in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilford and Vera. He is survived by his wife, Maizie; four sons, David Philip of Clemons, Iowa, Timothy of Bloomington, Illinois, Colin and his wife, Dianne of Ukarumpa, Papua New Guinea and Daniel at home; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Emily and her husband, Lyle DeFord of Perry.
Visitation will be Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the family present to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials will be given to the Marantha Baptist Church in Grimes, Iowa and may be left at the Carris Family Funeral Home.
