Charles Galbreth, 78, Dies in S.F.

Charles P. (Dad) Galbreth, 78, of 735 S. Covell Ave., retired Sioux Falls carpenter, died at his residence this morning following a brief illness. He had been living with friends, Mr. and Mrs. Dee Richardson, for the past 30 months.

Born in Prairie City, Ia., May 6, 1874, Mr. Galbreth came to Sioux Falls in 1895. In 1905, he homesteaded in northwestern South Dakota for five years before returning to Sioux Falls.

His wife, the former Elizabeth Carroll, whom he married in Aberdeen on April 24, 1908, died in 1910.

Mr. Galbreth, a member of St. Joseph’s Cathedral, was an Army veteran of World War I. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, and 40 et 8. He also belonged to the Carpenter’s local No. 783.

Mr. Galbreth had worked for the Henry Banks Construction Company for many years before retiring in 1949.

He is survived by several nephews and nieces in Sioux Falls.

The body is at the Miller Funeral Home.
