James R. Hardie Dies; Services Friday at Colfax
Colfax – James R. Hardie, 77, a resident of Colfax since 1967, died Monday evening at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Walters-Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax.
The Rev. Bob Cook of Des Moines, a former pastor of the Colfax Presbyterian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the McKeever Cemetery, north of Colfax.
Masonic rites will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Frank B. Evans will serve as lecturer.
Survivors are a son, James E. of Albany, Ga.; three daughters, Mrs. Alan (Beth) Wheeler of Colfax, Mrs. John (Harriet) Whitehead of Tavares, Fla., and Suzanne Conn of Colfax; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1965, two sisters, a brother, an infant daughter and an infant grandson.
Mr. Hardie was a member and past master of the Riverside Masonic Lodge and member and past president of the Kiwanis Club, both of Colfax.
Mr. Hardie had been a grocery store operator in Florida at the time of his retirement.
The son of John and Elizabeth Mason Hardie, he was born Mar. 1, 1902 in Buford, Ga.
He was married to Pauline Lewis Oct. 5, 1935 in Miami, Fla.
