Mrs. Susannah Guthrie died on Friday of last week, at the home of her son, William Guthrie, of whose family she had been a member for the past 21 years. She was aged 86 years, 4 months and 3 days. The funeral was at Guthrie Center on last Monday morning, and the casket containing the body was brought to Colfax on the 12:53 p.m. train, and was taken to the McKeever cemetery and laid to rest beside that of her husband, Samuel Guthrie.
Those who accompanied the casket from her late home were her sons, Fred and William Guthrie, and her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Carper, and Mrs. William Guthrie. Mrs. Henry Harrington, another daughter, of this place, was also present at the interment.
Previous to removing to Guthrie county, Mrs. Guthrie had been for forty years a resident of Poweshiek township, and many old friends, hastily notified of her death, were present at the burial.
Among those who knew this pioneer of Poweshiek township she is remembered for her devotion to her husband and family and for her many acts of neighborly kindness to the needy. She has laid down her burden and passed to her reward.
