Irene Gertrude Oetker Erwin, daughter of George and Hildagarde (Hoffman) Oetker, was born on April 28, 1925, in a farm house northwest of Haverhill, Iowa. She graduated from Van Cleve High School in 1943 where she played six-on-six basketball. On November 23, 1943, Irene was united in marriage with Thomas H. She had a great love for her husband of 66 years, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Left to honor Irene's memory are a son, Dale (Marsha) Erwin, a daughter Kathleen (John) Sievers, six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren, one brother George (Rita) Oetker of Tama, and one brother-in-law Charles Erwin of Marshalltown.
