Donald "Don" Kelsey, 76, of Baxter, Iowa passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the New Sharon Friends Cemetery in New Sharon, Iowa. A celebration of life will be held at Don's house (108 Harrison Ave, Baxter, Iowa) from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. following his committal service.

Don was born on June 29, 1946, in Skyler County, Missouri to Harold and Fern (Wright) Kelsey. He graduated from Queen City High School in 1964. Don served in the Air Force during the Vietnam war in 1967-1968. He married Vicki Johnson on February 14, 1970, in New Sharon, Iowa. To this union 2 sons were born. Don worked at Firestone in Des Moines for 17 years and the Newton Post Office for 21 years before retiring.

He was a member of Bethany United Church of Christ in Baxter. Don loved to spend time with his family, tend to his garden, read about the civil war, watch history shows on TV, and panning for gold which was his favorite hobby. He took great pride in his garden, his yard, and his car which was never dirty.

Those left to cherish his loving memory are his wife Vicki Kelsey, of Baxter, IA; sons Nathan Kelsey of Des Moines, IA and Ty (Patricia) Kelsey of West Des Moines, IA; granddaughter Madilynn whom Don loved so much; siblings Bob (Lynne) Kelsey of Kirksville, MO, Richard Kelsey of LaPlata, MO, and Evelyn (Fred) Warren of Springfield, MO; brothers-in-law Randi (Barb) Johnson of Gilman, IA and Rod Johnson of Gilman, IA; sister-in-law Sheila (Wes) Paul of Laurel, IA; many nieces and nephews; and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in-law; sister-in-law; brother in-law; niece; and nephew.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Fredregill Funeral & Cremation Care in Baxter has been entrusted with the care of Don and his family.
