Howard Lee Cupples, 89, of Newton died on Tuesday, December 27, 2022. A private family burial has been held. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2023, from 2-5 p.m., at the American Legion Post 111 in Newton. Memorials in Howard’s name (checks made payable to John Cupples) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Howard, the son of Isam and Flossie (Osborn) Cupples, was born on January 2, 1933 in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. After being discharged from the service, he and the rest of his family moved to Newton, Iowa. Howard was united in marriage with Sandra Houts on December 22, 1955 in Jackson, Minnesota. Howard worked as a self-employed mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion Post 111. Howard enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He also loved to spend time with his family.

Howard is survived by his children, Howard (Vicki) Cupples, Jr., Cathy (Mark) Andersen, Connie Cupples, and John (Cindy) Cupples, all of Newton; 13 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sandra Cupples in 2014; and a daughter-in-law, Susan Cupples.
