September 9, 1928 ~ December 15, 2022 (age 94)

Shirley Joy Brown, 94, of Newton died on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at her home and was lovingly reunited with her husband and best friend, Kenneth. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at the First Christian Church. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Wednesday. Memorials to the First Christian Church may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shirley, the daughter of Leopold and Matilda (Bach) Halter, was born on September 9, 1928 in Baxter. She grew up in Baxter and then on December 2, 1950, Shirley was united in marriage with Kenneth A. Brown. They made their home in Newton where Shirley was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church and CWF (Christian Women’s Fellowship). Shirley enjoyed cooking, crocheting, watching Westerns and playing cards. She was a loving caretaker to many, including her mother who lived with them for many years and also Kenneth’s mother and step-mother.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Julie Brown of Newton; granddaughter, Beth Brown of Newton; two great-grandsons, Devin and Adrian Marshall; her sister-in-law, Helen Halter of Newton; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth A. Brown in 1997; a stillborn son, Mark Brown; and her siblings, Lucille, Louis, Lawrence, Harold, Wilbur, and Robert Halter.
