John Earnest Potter
March 25, 1939 ~ December 1, 2022 (age 83)

A visitation for John will be held from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. A private burial will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity in memory of John.

John Earnest Potter, the son of Harry and Nora (Marker) Potter, was born March 25, 1939, in Hamburg, Iowa. He later moved to Newton, Iowa, where he met the love of his life, Olga Doris Gilbert. They were married for 46 years until her death in 2012. John was lost without Doris. His life was not the same until his death on December 1, 2022, when they were reunited in eternity.

John was a dedicated husband and hard worker for the companies he worked for during his professional career. John enjoyed working at Winpower Co. where he shared many memories of his co-workers pulling pranks on each other. He retired from Cline Tool, where he kept the facilities as clean as a whistle. If you knew John, you know he took pride in his cars, home, and workplace. He made them all look as best as he could. He did everything with precision and enjoyed keeping things clean. He will be missed by many but those he left behind know he is happy to finally be reunited with his life’s love, Doris.

John is survived by his cousin, Nolan Kelsey, and his family of Newton; his brother-in-law, John Gilbert (Linda) of Rocky Mount, NC; brother-in-law Robert Terlouw of Grinnell; nieces and nephews; Jamie Martin, Ashley Greenstreet, and Arvin, Mark, and Bruce Bogaards and their families.

John and Linda Gilbert would like to thank all the caregivers who tended to John during his stay at Newton Village.
