Nellie Veenstra, 84, of Newton died Friday, Aug. 9, 2005, in Bayfield, Wis.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Roger E. Russell of Wittemburg Church in rural Newton officiating. Burial will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Hamilton Cemetery in Hamilton. Friends may call from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials will be accepted to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association or to the Hamilton United Methodist Church and may be left at the funeral home.

The daughter of Cornelius "Neil" and Hilda (VerSteegh) Vanden Berg, she was born June 8, 1921, in Leighton. She grew up in and later farmed with her husband in Bussey before moving to Newton in 1990. On Aug. 15, 1938, she married Ben Veenstra in Attica. She was a homemaker and farmer's wife. She enjoyed southern gospel music and shopping.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Chris) Veenstra of Tracy; a daughter, Neala Veenstra of Newton; two step-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty (Bill) Weldon of Lovilia and Norma Vanden Berg of Des Moines; and other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a brother and two sisters.
