Alfred Joseph Brungardt
October 10, 1936 ~ September 12, 2022 (age 85)

Alfred “Al” Joseph Brungardt, 85, of Newton died on Monday, September 12, 2022, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Alfred’s name (checks made payable to Mike Brungardt) may be left at the funeral home.

Alfred, the son of Joseph and Frances (Linenberger) Brungardt, was born on October 10, 1936 in Kansas. He grew up in Washington, Kansas and moved to Iowa at the age of 18 to work at the Maytag Company. On July 6, 1959, Alfred was united in marriage with Julia Joyce “Judy” Wearmouth in Newton. They made their home in Monroe for many years prior to moving to rural Newton in 1983. Alfred worked for over 43 years at the Maytag Company, retiring in 1998. He also owned and operated Al’s Fencing and Tree Service for a number of those years. Alfred was a member of the UAW Local 997. He enjoyed going to auctions, gambling, riding around on his golf cart, and spending time with his family. He also liked going to All-Star Wrestling and never missed watching it on tv on Monday nights.

Alfred is survived by his four children, Cindy (Barry) Wineland of Newton, Mike (Jodi) Brungardt of Polk City, Diana (Lee) Smith of Ira, and Lori (Dennis) Coulson of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his siblings John (Dot) Brungardt of Kansas City, Missouri, Jan (John) Ross of Lee Summit, Missouri, and Deloris Lorson of Washington, Kansas; best friend, Roger Bell of Phoenix, Arizona; and his many nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy Brungardt in 2020; his grandson, Edwin Smith; and a great-grandson, Ronan Uss.
