Mary E. Stockbauer, 84, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022. Mary was born February 13, 1938 in Newton, Iowa to Austin and Helen (Ridgeway) Holmes. After graduating from high school, she attended Des Moines Area Community College and Iowa State University. Mary was very involved with the Head Start program and worked as a teacher’s assistant and a supervisor. She also taught home finances to homeschool staff. Mary served on the board of Hands Inc. in 1968, a nonprofit organization working towards housing and feeding families through education. She loved working with children and was a natural.

Mary also worked at Wells Fargo as a proof reader and secretary. She then worked for Manpower Staffing Agency which gave her the opportunity to work as a receptionist and secretary for many companies, ending up at Principal Financial. Another position she held was at Iowa Methodist in the purchasing department as a secretary and receptionist. After meeting and marrying Jerry in 1999 they worked together running a Stockbauer Concessions and owned the ice cream store, Jerry’s Tasty Twists.

Mary is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; children, Brenda (Jeff) Brennecke, Ramona (Scott) Fenner, Roberta Allison, Tina Karns, Toni (Ernest) Bach, Michael (Misty) Stockbauer, James (Linda) Stockbauer, Jeffrey (Sue) Stockbauer and Jerri Stockbauer; daughter-in-law, Kimber Stockbauer; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy, Sarah and Judy; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Randall Allison and Billy Stockbauer; and six siblings.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2022 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022, also at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made directly to her husband, Jerry.
