Meredith Paige Caves
June 25, 1993 ~ July 10, 2022 (age 29)

Meredith Paige Caves, 29, of Newton and Kellogg, died on Sunday, July 10, 2022, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha surrounded by her family with her favorite Scooby Doo video playing in the background. To celebrate Meredith’s life, her family will greet friends from 5-8 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2022, at the Holmdahl Park Cabin in Kellogg. At 8 p.m. there will be a short service followed by a social time that will include watching one of Meredith’s favorite movies outside the cabin. Please wear your Meredith shirt or something in the color purple to represent her journey with Rett Syndrome. Also, please bring a lawn chair. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Progress Industries or the Meredith Caves Scholarship may be left at the celebration of life or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Meredith, the daughter of Kenny and Lora (Stevenson) Caves, was born on June 25, 1993 in Des Moines. She lived in Newton for a few years before her family moved to Kellogg. Meredith graduated from Newton High School in 2014. During high school she was Prom Queen and was a part of the Unified Dance Team and the Big Game. She also placed 2nd in bowling at the Iowa Special Olympics. At the age of 20, Meredith transitioned to living in a Progress Industries group home where her roommates and the staff became like a second family.

Meredith was adored by all of her classmates and they loved when they could hear her talking as she walked through the halls. Although not always able to communicate in a traditional sense, Meredith’s eyes could always tell a story and were a window to what she was feeling and thinking. Like all teenage girls, Meredith was especially fond of her male classmates and her friend, Jordan Danks, always held a special place in her heart. She also loved watching movies on her IPAD – Disney movies and Scooby Doo were her favorites. Three things she couldn’t live without; movies, food, especially french fries, and boys.

Those left to continue Meredith’s story are her parents, Kenny and Lora Caves of Kellogg; sister, Macey Caves; brother, Reece Caves (Kamryn Arguello); grandparents, David and Dorothy Raymond of Newton, Jay and Judy Stevenson of Kellogg; and Charlotte Caves of Oskaloosa; her godparents, Rick and Cheryl Burnham of Grinnell; respite care parents, Andy and Lisa Corr of West Branch; and her many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her grandfather, Rick Caves and all of her great-grandparents. A special thank you to Nanny for staying with Meredith for many nights in the hospital.
