Jesse E. Patton Dies Saturday; Rites Wednesday
Jesse E. Patton, 87, of 518 N. 2nd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since 1919, died Saturday morning at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Toland-Wallace Funeral Home.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the First Christian Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Veterans Section of the Newton Union Cemetery.
Military services will be conducted by the Newton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1655.
Memorial contributions to the First Christian Church Building Fund will be accepted.
Survivors are his wife, Nellie; a son, Robert of Newton; two daughters, Evelyn Stone of Bellingham, Wash., and Mrs. Russell (Marguerite) Callison of Newton; six grandsons and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Mr. Patton was a member of the First Christian Church, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion and a life member of the Elks Lodge.
He was a retired postal clerk.
The son of John H. and Mary M. Sessler Patton, he was born Nov. 5, 1888 at Lima, Ohio.
He was married to Nellie Moffett Oct. 13, 1912 at Bridgeport, neb.
Mr. Patton enlisted in the Army, serving for 3 years, before enlisting in the World War I Army. He re-enlisted during World War II, receiving a bronze star medal for distinguished service as a mail clerk at Camp Scott, Iran.
