David L. Mooar Former Newton Resident, Dies
David L. Mooar, 78, of Mountain Home, Ark., a longtime former resident of Newton, died Monday in Mountain Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home in Marshalltown.
The Rev. Gary Pierce, pastor of the Marshalltown First Congregational Church, will conduct services. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown.
Friends may call at the Estel-Perrin Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife, Retha; a son, Herbert E. of Marshalltown; two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Schultz of Aurora, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Edith, women’s editor at The Newton Daily News for a number of years; and his parents.
Mr. Mooar, a member of the Congregational Church in Newton, was a life member of the Elks Lodge.
Mr. Mooar, a research engineer at the Maytag Co. for 45 years, before his retirement in 1962, was an avid outdoorsman, having written a number of articles which were published in outdoor publications.
The son of Clarence E. and Agnes Porter Mooar, he was born May 15, 1898 in Austin, Ill., and was educated in Downers Grove, Ill. schools.
He was married to Edith Heacock June 11, 1937 in Des Moines and to Retha B. Cline mar. 1, 1974.
