Pioneer Citizen Dies At Kellogg
Merritt Gilreath, pioneer citizen of Kellogg, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Charlie Meyers, Wednesday evening at 9:40 o’clock. He had been in failing health for the past year and suffered a paralytic stroke Tuesday morning, Nov. 19, which caused his death.
Funeral services will be held in the Christian church Saturday afternoon at one o’clock. Burial will be made in Antle cemetery.
Merritt Gilreath, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Gilreath, was born in Cumberland county, Ky., on Oct. 8, 1850. He came to Iowa in 1872 and located near Kellogg where he engaged in farming. He was united in marriage with Millie Cooper in Wayne county, Ky., in 1870. Two daughters were born to this union, Ella, who died at the age of 12 years, and Lizzie, now Mrs. Charlie Meyers. His wife preceded him in death in July 1925.
Surviving relatives include his daughter, Mrs. Charlie Meyers, three grandchildren and a number of great grandchildren, and one brother, William Gilreath of Kellogg.
