Conrad Wharff Dies Friday; Services Today
Funeral services for Conrad M. Wharff, 86, of 718 E. 4th St. N., a resident of Newton since 1924, were held today at the First Christian Church.
The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, conducted services.
The Rev. James Conger, pastor of the First Baptist Church, conducted burial services which were held in the new Virginia Cemetery.
He died Friday evening at the Skiff Memorial Hospital.
Memorial contributions to the First Christian Church or the Senior Citizens Center will be accepted.
Toland-Wallace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Survivors are two sons, Keith of Marion and Donald of Minneapolis, Minn.; five grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Hazel Allen of New Virginia and Mrs. Dave (Grace) Aldridge of Newton; and a brother, Earl Wharff of Newton.
Mr. Wharff was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Golda, in 1974; a son, Kenneth; a brother; and five sisters.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Jasper County Senior Citizens.
Mr. Wharff, a retired employe of the Iowa Southern Utilities Co., had worked at the Maytag Co. for 23 years.
The son of William and Alice McLaughlin Wharff, he was born Feb. 27, 1890 in Clarke County.
He was married to Golda Sayles Mar. 23, 1911 at Osceola.
