Sharon Susan Evans, 65, of What Cheer, Iowa, died unexpectedly on May 20, 2022. Sharon was born to Elmer and Arlene (Wyatt) Seeley in Newton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1974; after graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she lived for many years.
In 1991, Sharon moved back to Newton with her husband, Don, and two children, Sabrina and David. She worked for several years at The Vernon Company and several more at Maytag. Following its closing in 2006, Sharon chose to pursue higher education and obtained her Associate Arts degree in Computer Aided Drafting. After her open heart surgery in 2014, Sharon and Don eventually decided to relocate to What Cheer.
Anyone who spent time with Sharon knew her as a warm, caring person. Sharon never knew a stranger and was always a source of laughter for those around her. In her later years, she enjoyed making diamond paintings, David's home-cooked meals and Sabrina's baked goods, watching movies or playing Mario Kart, and reading with her grandkids. She would say that "her grandchildren were her muse and her waking inspiration."
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Sabrina (Jordan) Gogerty, and three grandchildren; her son, David Evans; her mother, Arlene Seeley; her brothers, Noel Seeley and Jim Stivers; and her sisters, Dorothy Turner and Alice James. She is preceded in death by her husband, Don; her father, Elmer; and her sisters, Nancy Seeley and Alberta Johnson. There will be a memorial service held at Newton Arboretum and Botanical Gardens Monday, June 27th, at 5:00 p.m. ~ Facebook 20 May 2022.
