Ralph W. Rivers, 85, of Newton died Friday, Jan. 20, 2006, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
No services or visitation are scheduled. Burial will be in Veteran I Section of Newton Union Cemetery. Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton is handling arrangements.
Memorials will be accepted in his name and may be left at the funeral home.
The son of Dwight and Pearl (Harbour) Rivers, he was born Jan. 6, 1921, in Newton. He graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1940. In 1941, he married Constance M. “Connie” Singletary in Louisiana.
Mr. Rivers served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a foreman in production at Maytag Company for many years and was a member of VFW Post 1655. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.
Survivors include two sons, Wallace Rivers of Newton and Michael (Denise) Rivers of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Cindy (Kendall) Shepard of Hot Springs, Ark., and Beverly Rivers of Branson, Mo.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carroll (Hazel) Rivers of Phoenix, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Raymond E. Rivers.
