A memorial service for Anne-Lois Auten Reynolds, 92, of Park Centre, 500 1st St. N., formerly of Kentmere, Cumbria, England, and Middletown, CT, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26 at the Newton First Christian Church. The Rev. Ray Barnett, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in Newton Union Cemetery, and a light luncheon was served following the service.

Memorials to Park Centre were accepted. Wallace-Pence Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Reynolds died Monday at the Park Centre Care Facility.

Survivors are a son, Philip Auten Reynolds of Willimsville, N.Y., a daughter, Lee Auten Reynolds Hall of rural Kellogg; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Bert and Charlotte Auten of Newton; a sister, Margaret (Mrs. Clayton) Beveridge of Middletown, CT; a sister-in-law Grace (Mrs. Jay M.) Auten of Kellogg; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, husband Paul on Sept. 10, 1990; and four brothers, Jay, Windsor, Melvin and Gene Auten.

The daughter of Frank and Susie Mae Morris Auten, she was born April 22, 1903 in Kellogg. She attended Buena Vista Townshp schools and Grinnell Community High School, and was a 1928 graduate of Grinnell College where she majored in botany.

She taught school in rural Kellogg until her marriage to Paul Arthur Reynolds, also of this area, July 20, 1930 at the Pleasant View United Methodist Church in Jasper County, where both families regularly worshiped.

Following their marriage they moved to Middletown, CT, where for 50 years Mr. Reynolds was Professor of Philosophy at Wesleyan University.

After his retirement in 1973, they spent increasing time at their home in Kentmere, England, their daughter and family also being resident in England.

Mrs. Reynolds was an avid and lifelong gardener, raising flower and vegetable gardens both in Connecticut and Cumbria.

She also painted, nurtured her family first hand to the fourth generation, as well as taking a strong interest in their genealogy. She produced extensive records for her families, tracing their history back into the 1600's.

She was active in church affairs and a lifelong worshiper both in Connecticut and England.

Mrs. Reynolds and her daughter Lee Hall returned to Newton on September 8, 1992 to visit the Auten brothers and other relatives. She suffered a stroke September 15, 1992, and remained in Newton.
