Helen Marie Davis
January 12, 1932 - March 04, 2022

Helen Marie Davis age 90 of Colfax passed away on Friday, March 04, 2022. Per her wishes, she will be cremated and no services are planned. Condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com . The daughter of Milo E. and Gladys Belle (Wiggins) Lockridge, Helen was born on January 12, 1932, in North English, Iowa. She was raised there along with her sister, Shirley, tap dancing together throughout their childhood. Her sister, Pam, was born when Helen was 17 years of age. Helen loved North English and made life-long friends there. Her fondest childhood memories were riding on the manure spreader with her Grandad Lockridge and Daddy, drinking well water from Grandad's well, eating Papa Wiggins homemade chocolate ice cream and loving on Grandma Lockridge's lemon pudding. She re-lived these memories over and over during her last few weeks with us.

Helen graduated from North English High School and furthered her education at AIB in Des Moines. Following graduation, she worked for J.I. Case Company before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota. There, she worked at 3M as a secretary until her retirement. Her organizational skills and attention to detail made her one of the best! Helen raised her children in St. Paul; she was a single mother for many years and worked hard to make ends meet. She made the best pizza and baked the best apple pies. Her children have fond summer memories of their mother packing all of the neighborhood kids into the back of the pickup truck for an afternoon of swimming in the nearby lake.

Helen was an avid reader and would read one book a day and often start reading another. When she moved to Colfax, Librarian Jill Miller soon became one of her fondest acquaintances. Helen was very proud of her collection of books. She was Elvis' greatest fan and was thrilled to be able to visit Graceland with her sisters. Her family played his music to her over and over the past few weeks of her life to calm her.

Helen enjoyed going to Riverside and Prairie Meadows with her sisters, attending events at the Civic Center, and looking for bargains at monthly flea markets. Helen and her sister have beautiful white hair and whenever they were out together, people would often mistake them for twins. She loved to do needle work and knitted countless slippers, scarves and hats for her family and friends. She also made beautiful Christmas stockings for all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday or an anniversary.

Helen loved Minnesota and looked forward to her visits with her family back home. She was able to visit this summer and also spent Thanksgiving and Christmas with them. She was an avid Vikings, Twins and Gophers fan. Her family surprised her with tickets to the Minnesota Vikings game for Christmas, fulfilling her bucket list. Her great grandson, Eli, helped her make the climb up the many steps to the stadium! She never stopped talking about that game and the great time she had there with her family.

When someone passes at an old age, people often comment that they lived a good, long life, and we were blessed to have Helen for 90 years; however, that doesn't lessen the loss family feels. It seems we always want one more time to be with the ones we love to laugh, cry, joke, sing, dance, or just sit and reminisce. . . She was a feisty, spunky, sassy lady, and she has left a big hole in all of our hearts.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Lonnie Schweiker (Laura), Tina Marie Chovan (Mike), and Kristi Jovanovich (Keith), grandchildren, Tammie Schweiker (Keith Goya), Jennifer Livingston (Jered Chambers), Aymie Cornelison (Curtis), Adam Fransen (Danelle), Samantha Hoel (David), Bailee and Kalee Jovanovich, one great granddaughter, Lily Chambers, eight great grandsons, Justin Fransen, Eli, Ian and Owen Livingston, Kage and Kole Goya, and Vincent and Wesley Cornelison, her sisters Shirley Tucker and Pam Fox (Terry), niece Sherri Jo Strasko, nephews Brad Fox (Heather), Brant Fox (Marna), Tim Fox (Jennifer), great nieces Mandi Jo Bennett, Riley, Maddie and Charlotte Fox, Sueann Snowfly (Sarek), great nephews Bart Buch (Seth Eberle), Brett Buch (Chere), K.C. McLaughlin, Cameron, Carson and Nick Fox, Owen Bennett (Isabella), Evan Bennett, Terrance Eagle Feather and Perrin Snowfly.
