The daughter of Joseph and Flora Marie (Funk) Furnoy, Elva was born on October 24, 1933 in Prairie City. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1951. On March 8, 1953, Elva was united in marriage to Gail Max Timmons in Prairie City. Elva worked at Northwestern Bell in Des Moines and at the state house. For many years Elva was a bookkeeper at McKlveen Lumber in Prairie City. Later on Elva worked for several years at a hotel in West Des Moines. Elva was a member of the Prairie City United Methodist Church.

She lived in Prairie City from 1933 to 1986, then lived in Arizona till 1993 when she moved to West Des Moines. Most recently Elva lived at Glen Oaks in Urbandale.

Elva enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed going to casinos to "win" at video poker. She always enjoyed taking walks. Elva was quick with a smile and laugh and would never pass up an opportunity to socialize with friends. She had a great love for animals - all animals especially dogs. Hallmark will miss Elva as she was the best at remembering to send a card for any special occasion.

Those left to honor her memory include her two children, Tom (Kay) Timmons and LuAnn (Wayne) Ostergaard; five grandchildren, Joseph (Natalie) Timmons, James Timmons, Julie (Scott) Yount, Joshua (Amanda) Ostergaard and Jason (Meghan) Ostergaard and 14 great grandchildren: Alivia, Jade, Greysyn, and Jordy Yount; Jackson and Lincoln Timmons; Isla, Eleanor, and Maxwell Ostergaard; Clara, Keaton, Nolan, Felicity, and Violet Ostergaard.
