Helen L (Johnson) Davidson
August 17, 1931 ~ February 14, 2022 (age 90)

Helen Louise Davidson, 90, of Newton passed away on Monday, February 14, 2022, at Newton Health Care Center. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends for a half hour prior to the service. Memorials in Helen’s name may be left at the funeral home (checks made payable to Margene Kastner or Davette Smith).

Helen, the daughter of Verl and Florence (Rabeneaux) Johnson was born on August 17, 1931 in Deep River, Iowa. The family moved to Newton where Helen graduated from Newton High School in 1949. She married her high school sweetheart, Clarence “Davy” Davidson at the Newton First Baptist Church on November 11, 1950. The next couple of years Helen traveled with her husband to Marine bases in San Diego and North Carolina. After his discharge from the Marines in 1953 they returned to Newton. They lived the remainder of their lives in Jasper County. They had two daughters; Davette Diane born in 1951 and Margene Louise in 1957 and a stillborn son between the girls.

In 1959, the family moved to an acreage in rural Newton. Clarence worked as a millwright/machinist and a Product Development Tech for the Maytag Company. Helen worked for many years at Newton Manufacturing Company in accounting and then with the Vernon Company as an order taker. She grew huge gardens, preserved and canned food and enjoyed crafts of all kinds. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church in Newton and was active in many church organizations, including the American Baptist Women’s group. The family enjoyed vacations all over the United States, camping, visiting relatives and hobby related destinations. She enjoyed time spent with her two grandchildren, Nancy and Dylan.

Helen is survived by daughters, Davette Smith and Margene Kastner, both of Newton; their granddaughter, Nancy Smith (Bill Turner) of Somerville, Massachusetts; grandson, Dylan Kastner of Newton; brother, Jesse “Dick” Johnson of Ratcliff, Arkansas; and numerous nieces and nephews across the United States. Her sister, Cecelia Ringgenberg, passed away two days after Helen. She was preceded in death by her father, Verl Johnson; mother and step-father, Florence and Willard Ferguson; her husband, Clarence Davidson, son-in-law, Joe Ehlerman; brother-in-law, Norman Ringgenberg and sister-in-law Edie Johnson.
