Gerald Paul Heisler

Gerald Paul Heisler was born December 04, 1942 the second child of George and Dolly (Wright) Heisler in Waukee, Iowa. He attended school in Johnston before joining the US Army where he completed his GED. Jerry served eight years in the Army's 2D Missile Battalion, 56th Artillery and was honorably discharged from service in Pirmansens, Germany in 1964. While stationed in Pennsylvania, he was united in marriage to Martha "Sandy" Lauschus, to this union two sons - Michael and Dennis - were born. The couple would later divorce. He moved back to the Des Moines area in the mid-1960s, and on October 28, 1972 he married Betty Van Baale. To this union one son - Aaron - was born. The couple moved to Monroe where they have remained. He drove semi for Harpers, Vitalis, and Warnell before becoming an owner-operator driving his baby - his 2003 Peterbilt. He and his "partner" (his terrier Bubba) traveled everywhere together. Jerry was also a 20-year veteran of the Jasper County road works.

Jerry enjoyed coaching and refereeing soccer, riding his motorcycles, camping with friends & family, and traveling to multiple historical & military sightseeing destinations. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and watching their activities.

Jerry entered into eternal rest January 29,2022 at Accura HealthCare of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents George and Dolly Heisler and a sister Mary (Heisler) Clover. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Betty, sons Michael Heisler of Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Dennis Heisler of Coeur d'Alene Idaho, and Aaron (Randi) Heisler of Allison, Iowa, seven grandchildren Shiann Heisler of Yokosuka Kanagawa Japan, Zoe Heisler of Post Falls Idaho, Dax Heisler of Coeur d'Alene Idaho, McKenna and Cody Heisler of Colfax, Iowa, and Kjersti and Ambjor Snyder of Clearbrook Minnesota, and one great-granddaughter Tailynn (Zoe).

A celebration of Gerald's life will be held on Thursday, February 03, 2022, from 5:00 - 7:00pm at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. Memorials may be directed to the family and condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com
