August 7, 1954 ~ January 31, 2022 (age 67)

Connie Jean Rider, 67, of Newton passed away peacefully on Monday, January 31, 2022, at MercyOne Cedar Rapids Medical Center. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, February 6, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to the American Cancer Society may be left at the funeral home.

Connie, the daughter of Carroll and Shirley (Chambers) Opperud, was born on August 7, 1954 in Charles City. As a young child, her family moved to Newton. Connie graduated from Newton High School in 1972. On October 13, 1973, she was united in marriage with Jeff Rider in Newton. She had worked at Newton Manufacturing and Forbes prior to working in the vision center at Wal-Mart for the last 15 years. Connie enjoyed shopping, chocolate, and collectables. She was also known for accessorizing and her extensive jewelry collection.

Connie is survived by her husband, Jeff Rider of Newton; daughter, Megan (Tony) Fields of Cedar Rapids; her grandchildren, Braxton, Hayden, and Paisley; sisters, Angie (Bob) Snook and Carolyn Holmes, both of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-law, Tom Holmes.
