Mrs. Beals Dies Here at Age 82, Funeral Sunday
Mrs. Charlotte Beals, 400 West Eighth Street North, lifetime resident of Jasper county and member of the county’s early pioneer families, died at her home last night at the age of 82.
Mrs. Beals was born near Ira on Dec. 8, 1868, to Isaac and Mary Heifner. She was the youngest and last survivor of a family of 10 children. On Dec. 25, 1886, she was married to Charles E. Beals.
For two years the Beals lived in Missouri, but after Mr. Beal’s death in 1897, Mrs. Beals returned with her five children to Newton.
She was a member of the First Methodist church, Women’s Relief Corps, American Legion Auxiliary and the Service Star Legion.
Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Oral (Audrey) Bailey of Grinnell; three sons, Harvey of Detroit, Ray of Mingo, Ralph of Newton, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One son, Harry, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at Johnson-Murdoch Funeral Home with Rev. E. A. Briggs, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery near Ira in the family plot.
