William Baker, 80, Retired Ira Farmer, Succumbs Thursday
William H. Baker, 80, retired farmer and lifetime resident of Jasper county, died of a heart attack Thursday at his home at 909 East Seventh Street South.
Mr. Baker moved to Newton in the fall of 1944 after retiring from the farm. He farmed in the Ira community.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. at Toland funeral home with the Rev. Allan K. Williams of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel cemetery west of Ira.
Survivors of Mr. Baker are his wife; two sons, Clifford of Mingo, and Leon of Altadina, Cal.; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Velma) Wilson, Mrs. Jim (Mary Jean) Farver, and Mrs. Elmer (Roberta) Van Voorst, all of Newton; one brother, Frank of Newton; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One daughter, a son, and one grandchild preceded him in death.
Born to James and Martha Baker near Ira March 28, 1874, he married Millie Beals in 1900. His wife died in 1919 and he remarried in 1924 to Jennie Cross.
The deceased was a member of the First Methodist church.
