Cheryl Kay Westra, age 68, of Prairie City went to her Heavenly home to meet her Savior, on Wednesday, December 01, 2021 at her home. The memorial service will be held on Friday, December 10, 2021 at 1:00 pm at the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. The family will greet friends and relatives following the memorial service at the church in the fellowship hall. Burial will take place at Waveland Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren or the Prairie City Ambulance. Condolences may be left at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of Raymond and Thelma (DeGoey) Boertje, Cheryl was born on December 15, 1952, the youngest of two children, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. She graduated from Prairie City High School in 1971. On December 28, 1971, she was united in marriage to Robert D. Westra. Cheryl worked at Principal and the State of Iowa. In 1998 she opened a gift shop on the farm called the Prairie Creek Trading Post. She loved all of her customers there and tried to make them all feel welcome. Although she had several jobs throughout her life, working side by side with her husband on the farm was always her priority. Cheryl loved all animals, especially dogs. She even raised Lhasa Apsos for several years. Her greatest love, however, was her love for Jesus. She taught catechism for several years and she and Bob were currently attending the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. She was a kind, generous, giving, selfless, and faithful person and will be missed by many.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Robert; her sister, Marcene (Alan) Cox; several aunts and uncles; many cousins and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, her in-laws, and several aunts and uncles.
