Frances “Fran” Irene Schultz, 84, of Newton died on Thursday, December 02, 2021, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Community Heights Alliance Church. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials to Community Heights Alliance Church may be left at the funeral home.

Fran, the daughter of F.D. and Elva (Greene) Halferty, was born on November 11, 1937 in Chariton. She graduated from Chariton High School in 1956. Following graduation, she attended Ottawa University and then graduated from Central College. Fran was united in marriage with Ken Schultz on August 17, 1958 in Chariton. They made their home in Newton. Fran taught Kindergarten for two years in the Newton and Grinnell school districts, before continuing to sub for many years. Later, Fran would work as the Administrative Assistant for the Transportation Department at the Newton Community Schools, retiring in 2013. Fran was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church; where she sang in the choir and was active in mission work. She also sang at many weddings and funerals. Fran loved to be active and enjoyed bicycling, canoeing, and camping. She was also an avid reader.

Fran is survived by her husband, Ken Schultz of Newton; children, Lori Gardner of Carlisle and Mark (Desiree) Schultz of Peyton, Colorado; grandchildren, Jordan (Katie) Schultz, Kolburt (Kellie) Schultz, Hannah (Isaac) Wiggers, Kendyll (Chris) Woods, Micah Schultz, and Krysta (Ian) Stenzel; her great-grandchildren, Aabrielle, Randy, Zara, Charles, Reagan, Anderson, Jackson, Hudson, McCoy, and Oliver; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Davida Harvey and Lois Stone; and brother, Alvin Halferty.
