It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Mickey Simpson, who died peacefully at the age of 92.
Mickey was born in Newton and married her high school sweetheart Marvin Simpson in 1949. They resided in Newton with their three daughters Marlys, Pat, and Connie until relocating to Waterloo, where they lived until each of their daughters had graduated from high school. They then returned to live in Newton in order to be closer to their parents and their many long-time friends.
Mickey had many friends and acquaintances in Newton. She was a kind and generous soul with a wonderful sense of humor who was adored by nearly everyone she met. One of her favorite activities was getting together with her MNO (Mother’s Night Out) club, which began 68 years ago. These club women, who Mickey fondly referred to as “the girls”, included Pat Koppin, Dee Butler, Phyllis Snook, Joyce Nicholson, Bert Vermillion, Verla Jay, and Phyllis Yeutsy.
Mickey also loved spending time with her sister Karen Neff,who resides in Monroe with her husband Dwight. Mickey and Karen maintained a close and loving relationship throughout their lives. Mickey and Marv loved spending time with their three daughters Marlys (Don) Akin of Raleigh, North Carolina, Pat Simpson of Napa, California, and Connie Simpson of Palatine, Illinois.
Mickey and Marv were also very involved with the Iowa Automobile Dealer’s Association for many years. They made many life-long friends and had great fun attending various meetings and conventions over the years.
Mickey and Marv moved from their home to the Newton Village in their later years. Marv passed away in 2007 from Alzheimer’s Disease. Mickey continued to reside at the Newton Village, where she had several close and wonderful friends. Her daughters relocated her to Palatine, Illinois in 2020 to be closer to family members.
Mickey worked as a receptionist and secretary at the law office of Matthias, Campbell, Tyler, Nuzum, and Rickers in Newton for several years. Previously she worked as an executive administrative assistant for Allstate Insurance Company. Mickey’s noteworthy memberships included the First United Methodist Church, Eastern Star, PEO, and the Elks.
Mickey is preceded in death by her parents, Edna and Max Mahon, and by her husband, Marv, his parents, Daisy and Rex Simpson and brother-in-law Ronnie (Bette) Simpson. Those left to cherish her memory include her three daughters Marlys, Pat, and Connie, her four grandsons Bradley, Mitchell, Lucas and Bryce, her great grandson Owen, sister Karen and Dwight Neff and their family, sister-in-law Reta and Jim Miller and their family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation at the Wallace Family Funeral Home on Friday
